Phone Scam Warning

The Police inform us that there have many of the following calls in this area.

1. Caller advises he phoning from Microsoft technical support.
2. The caller advises that your PC is sending them information that your operating system has viruses and spyware on your PC
3. He then will ask you to go to your PC and go to a website so they can install software to check your pc.
4. At this stage they will scan your PC which could give them access to all your personal documents,passwords ect.
5. When they have done their scans they will know inform you that you need additional anti virus software which you can purchase from them.

DON'T GIVE THEM ANY FINANCIAL DETAILS OVER THE PHONE.

Follow-up..... One of our readers received one of these calls and knew it was suspect because he does not use the Windows operating system.   He was successful in tracing the telephone number and has reported it for action.

6/12/11 Good for our Council.... The Trading Standards section of our council has taken an interest and has followed this up.   If everyone reported these scams it would help to put a stop to them.
