Crime Reporting

Police to improve crime reporting in NPT

Following our previous item on reporting crime on 101, the police have told one of our team that the crime reporting structure is undergoing a major change.   This includes changes to the service at the front desk at the Port Talbot Police Station.

Apart from the 101 telephone number, it appears that plans are in hand to report crime on-line.  However, it was mentioned that changes to the system will not be completed until April 2012.
The new structure is likely to take into account the various neighbourhood watch schemes in the area.  A more effective approach to community policing with interactive PACT meetings is likely to make residents feel more secure with the knowledge that priority problems are being followed up.

Being aware of the Post Code
Staff at business premises and employees at public buildings should be aware of the Post Code of the building they are working in.   This is because emegency calls are handled by personel outside the area who are not familier with the area where the call is coming from.
An example of a recent mix up, where a Post Code was not known, was when an ambulance was sent to the wrong community hall in Waunceirch where there are two buildings having similar names.
