West Burnham on shallow, deep and profound learning

I am particularly interested to build up a reference list of work that contributes to the development of inclusive and inclusional gifted and talented educational theory, practice and provision. There is as yet little in the field but it is developing rapidly. These are some of the references that have provoked my interest, curiousity or even at times outrage. I include some work I really disagree with but still appreciate as it has forced me to clarify my thinking.

I often make notes for myself, and keep quotes for my own use. I have on occassions put them here so I can find them (I told you I am not good at filing). I dont say they are accurate and remember the bias I have so I hope they might encourage you to get the book or paper and read the work yourself. In my experience there is no substitute for going to the source.

These are only very crudely organised and many books and papers could fall under all or some of the headings. So, have a skim through all the lists. I have included notes etc where I, or someone else, have made them. Sometimes these are just an odd quotation, sometimes I have typed out extensive quotations depending on how I feel or need. They will give you some idea of what the book or paper might include but be aware it is my bias that dictates what I have selected to note. Sometimes I have included my own summaries or thoughts - again you may have very different understandings than me but I hope that you might be curious and get the full texts.

As I work with different references I will put them on. If you want to share your thoughts as you read the references or some of my meanderings or you would tell me what you have found interesting I would be really delighted to hear from you.

I have been on a journey of over 35 years to get to this place and the work of many have influenced me. The work of the four most influential theorists which have helped me move from a crawl to a jump at this nodal point in my journey are:

Jack Whitehead - Living Educational Theory,
Belle Wallace - TASC (Thinking Actively in a Social Context)

Carol Dweck - the influence of self theories of intelligence
John White - ideological roots of intelligence

The links are to just tasters of their work.

I really dont want to loose this reference to 'Interweaving Thematic Threads and Learning Pathways' by Anthony Judge - so am parking it here for the time being.
