Peter Hain MP and The Neath Voice

Yesterday we saw Andy Coulson  found guilty at the phone hacking scandal trial and Rebekah Brooks not guilty. However what has been exposed by this is the seedy world of stardom.

It appears that stars hungry for space on these tabloid newspapers will do practically anything, like dobbing in their best friends just to be noticed.

A long time ago I stopped buying any newspapers, just because I was not interested in the lives of others, never mind how glorious they made them look for the pictures. I have what I have and do not wish others to pass judgement on me and my life constantly, purely so I shall be more famous than the man next door and so I can gain more money.

A whole life is created for those we are told are ‘stars’. But these stars are nothing without that creation. Without the ear of the tabloids to splash them over its pages no one will know they exist, as no one knows I exist, only those people to whose life I make a difference.

When will people start forming their own opinions and stop being led by the nose by others whose only interest is money. Of primary concern to tabloids is not the welfare of those they reach but the money in their pockets.

On the other hand we have our politicians wrapped up in this same culture. Our politicians appear to be more concerned with the media, tabloids and how much money they are getting than how good a job they are doing for those for whom they are elected representatives.

For all politicians are elected, be they the prime minister or your local councillor.

So why do politicians think they have to be in the limelight?

Why do politicians want the bright lights of stardom when they have been elected to serve the community which they offered themselves to and which chose them as their best chance of representation.

Because our politicians are caught up, like Katie Price and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, in the world of putting themselves out there and reaping the rewards of money and fame. They are star struck. You cannot get that fame pounding the streets of Neath talking to people and doing your job.

How can a politician who has been elected by the people of Neath to serve as their voice in Parliament allow the town to become the way it has over their term of office. How can a politician who takes the money for doing that job absolve their responsibility, hand it over to local employees and absent themselves for higher office and better things.

How can a politician who offers people a website called the Voice of Neath on Facebook take off pictures and complaints from people about the town he is supposed to be the voice for and obliterate evidence that what people are complaining about does not really exist.

Who has stopped the voice of the people of Neath in the only contact most of them will have with their MP, who flits around the world purporting he is a freedom fighter. What about the freedom of speech of the people of Neath? The people who pay him are as nothing it seems.
