The Kirkwall East Church congregation, located in the heart of Kirkwall, is part of the Church of Scotland (Scots: The Scots Kirk). The Church of Scotland is the national church of Scotland. It is a Protestant church and its governance is Presbyterian.

kirkwall east kirkKirkwall East Church’s history can be traced back to 1796.  Today it worships in a suit of refurbished buildings that meets the physical needs of the congregation as well as the needs of many other groups.  The national Church’s longstanding decision to respect "liberty of opinion on matters not affecting the substance of the faith" is acknowledged which means that the congregation is relatively tolerant of a variety of theological positions, including those who would term themselves conservative and liberal in their doctrine, ethics and interpretation of Scripture.

The Kirkwall East congregation worships at 11.15am each Sunday. During worship, Sunday Clubs for children of all ages are offered every Sunday throughout the year. The Groups that organise the life of Kirkwall East are many and varied. There are therefore lots of opportunities for people to get involved in the life and work of Kirkwall East.

The East Kirk is a Church of Scotland Eco Congregation. Many Christians are concerned about the environment but don't know what they can do. Eco-congregation is an ecumenical programme to help congregations understand environmental issues and make appropriate practical and spiritual responses.

You are welcome at the King Street Halls whether you come to worship in the Upper Room or to use our building for another purpose.
