INTRODUCTION
A quotation from 'All Things Uncertain: The Story of the G.I.S'
by Phyllis Stewart Brown.
The Girl Guides Association, 1966.
'In spite of threatening clouds of war in 1939, four thousand older Guides, Rangers and Guiders from thirty-two nations met for the Guide World Camp in Hungary; but friends parted with grave faces. "If war comes" they said, "we must keep our friendships. If we cannot meet; if we cannot write; if we never see each other again, we can remember each other. We can pray for each other."
In twenty years of peace between the two world wars, thousands of youngsters, members of the British Girl Guide Association, had made contacts with fellow Guides in Europe, and every year Inter¬national Camps, training, and conferences strengthened personal friendships between people of different Nations.'
