EXHIBITION 2014

Gala Week is early this year so our Exhibition will be held from Monday, 28 July through to Friday, 8 August.  This year's theme is "Golspie and World War One" which will highlight the men listed on the Golspie War Memorial as well as other artifacts and photographs from 1914-1918.  As usual if you have anything which you may think relates to this time period, please get in touch.  (Photographs)  A video is also available of the Exhibition and some of our research.

EXHIBITION 2013

As Golspie Gala Week are celebrating their 40th year, we will be featuring memorabilia and photographs of gala weeks past.  If you have any items or photographs you wish to loan or have copied, let us know.  Or if you have any stories to tell about previous gala weeks, we would love to hear them.  We will of course have our usual items on display of photographs and records of Golspie in general.  (Photographs)

EXHIBITION 2012

As it is Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee this year we are including this as part of our annual Exhibition.  Another major event, the Olympics, are being held in the UK so we will be exhibiting our sporting memorabilia with some of the sporting achievements by local people in addition to trying to include a list of those people who left Golspie for foreign lands, where they went to and when.  If you can help with any of these topics, please get in touch.  (Photos of the Exhibition)

EXHIBITION 2011

"Gets Better Every Year" was one of the many comments received during our Exhibition this year, "Discover Golspie" where we attempted to display and exhibit the many finds and sites around the village covering all time spans.  Many items were added to our collections (too many to add to this site, but you can view them at your leisure if you can come along to our Heritage Centre).

EXHIBITION 2010

Another successful Exhibition was held during Golspie Gala Week with many visitors from far and wide.  Our SCHOOLS exhibition was very much a success with many photos being added to our collections and many thanks to all those that helped with the Exhibition and loaned materials for copying.  Schools included were:  Sutherland Technical School, Dunrobin and the Golspie schools, Primary, High School, Senior Secondary, Backies and the Free Church.  Please get in touch if you have any items relating to the schools of Golspie as we would love to hear from  you.

EXHIBITION 2009

The theme of the 2009 Exhibition was HOMECOMING which was held during Golspie Gala Week when many Golspie folks return home and during the following week.

Many visitors from far and wide attended the Exhibition and were very generous in making donations to the Heritage Society.  The members of Golspie Heritage Society would also like to say a HUGE thank you to all those who made donations of their time and items to be included in the Exhibition.  We have had rave reviews and were told that this was our best Exhibition yet!  Further comments about having the Centre open permanently with the Exhition in place were also received.  Perhaps in the future!

The kettle was never off the boil and the home baking was delivered and consumed daily.  Thanks also to the "home bakers" and of course the "curators" with their wealth of local knowledge.

Some of the items to be seen this year were:

The early-mid 1900's shop
The Raggie in the lobby
The early-mid 1900’s shop
Visit the wife and bairns at home with granny in her bed having a nap
The fisherman mending his net with his crofter friend who has just clipped his sheep
Some early maps
The shed where all the mending is done
The loo also has exhibition items (hopefully no exhibitionists)
Early postcards on the telly
Listen to "Grannie's Heilan Hame" on the gramaphone
A selection of WW2 items in the display cabinet
A small selection of Sutherland Technical School items in the display cabinet

Sutherland County Show

Saturday, 18 July, 2009

Golspie Heritage Society, Clyne Heritage Society, Rogart Heritage Society and Rosehall Heritage Society gathered in their own "Heritage" marquee and welcomed visitors to view the many interesting items on display.  Visitors from New Zealand, the USA and of course locals and tourists found the displays interesting and fascinating.  John Macdonald from Rogart Heritage Society also entertained us all with a turn on his accordian with Donald Macdonald from Golspie giving us a traditional gaelic song - an enjoyable day out!  Shame there wasn't a lot of room for dancing.  Perhaps a bigger marquee for next year!!!!

See a small selection of photos HERE!
