Forth are the champions!
11 September 2010

Forth were up at the crack of dawn to make the trip to Oban for the Caledonian Canal Cup decider against Strathglass.  Despite the promised rain it was a beautiful sunny day and the pitch was in great condition.

The intensity of Forth's play was high from the beginning and they got off to a great start with Katy Smith putting the ball into the back of the net just minutes after the throw up.  Niamh Donnelly follwed that up swiftly to put Forth in a great position and giving their supporters (arrived all the way from Wales - thanks Mr. and Mrs. D!) something to cheer about.  Forth were dominant in the midfield with Holly Webster putting in hard tackles and Jenny Durkin running milse about the pitch to pick up loose balls.  Mairi Lawson and Jenny Smith didn't have much to trouble them at the start of the match and Liz Perry made two amazing saves and thoroughly sealing the Forth defence.  Katy managed another goal following some lovely passing play across Strathglass's own half.  Stratglass, however, were not out at this stage and managed to fight their way into the Forth half where they finally managed to get a goal.  This was quickly answered by another goal from Ruth Bordoli for Forth to take them into half-time with a comfortable 4 - 1 lead.

Strathglass benefitted from the break and started to put pressure on Forth from the restart, this eventually culminated in their second goal.  Forth were not going to give up the cup that easily however and answered it with Niamh Donnelly beating two defenders to put the ball past the Strathglass goalie.  There was a realy fight on from this stage and for the next few minutes it didn't look certain for Forth as Strathglass made greater and greater efforts to score, being foild repeatedly by Mairi, Jenny and Polly. Eventually they managed to sneak another one in and the situation seemed quite dangerous.  This put some of the fire back into the tired Forth legs and from that point they claimed back some of their dominance from the first half.  When Strathglass had to replace their goalie Katie Smith took full advantage to score another goal and seal victory for Forth.

Final Score: Forth 6 - Strathglass 3

Women's Association Player of the Match: Katy Smith
Players' Player of the Match: Jenny Durkin
