Forth disappointed in Glasgow
08 August 2010

Forth faced GMA for the first time this season in Yoker.  With GMA lying just ahead in the league table this was an important match for Forth.  GMA were lucky to get an early goal past poorly feeling keeper Natalie.  However, this lucky goal was the exception, rather than the rule for Natalie who made some exceptional saves and clearances despite intense pressure from GMA.  GMA took full advantage of the numerous substitutes available to them to wear Forth out with lots of running.  Jenny Durkin had some good shots on goal and tried to put Linda Corcoran's corners to good use but shots kept slipping just wide. Newcomer Leigh Fell made an excellent debut, putting lots of pressure on the back marking her to free up ball for Jenny.  Linda swapping into full forward from midfield changed the flow of the match somewhat and created even more shots for Forth that they were unlucky not to convert.  Despite the pressure being exerted at the front by the forwards and midfields the short grass and sandy pitch were creating problems for the backs, making it difficult to clear the ball well.  Although Úna Henry and Mairi Lawson did Trojan work as always GMA managed to break through once more before the end of the half.

Forth came back on the pitch determined to level the match up and to convert their forward pressure into scores.  Katy Smith and Jenny made plenty of beautiful midfield passes and it wasn't long before one of these led to a score for Katy, who received a pass a few metres outside the D and put it in the back of the net.  GMA weren't so easily put away and got another goal to make it 3-1.  However, when the ball came back up the pitch Aisling Spain's marker left her open for long enough for her to put a shot past the keeper.  However GMA immediately came back with another goal.  This seemed to cause Forth to put their heads down and GMA were able to quickyl score twice more.  The final minutes saw renewed pressure from Forth but just as it seemed the game was beginning to go back their way the whistle blew leaving them disappointed.

Final score: Forth 2 - GMA 6

Man of the match: Leigh Fell and Natalie Nicholls
