Plucky Forth suffer first defeat of the season
25 July 2010

Forth faced Cowal and Bute in a sunny Musselburgh for a repeat of their first round cup tie.  This time, however, Forth lined out one man short against a Cowal team with two subs.  Forth didn't go into the match downbeat though.  The first goal of the match went to Katy Smith within moments of the throw up.  Forth managed to keep a lot of possession inside Cowal's half, despite being one man.  Cowal were eventually able to make use of their advantage to slot a shot into the goal.  Forth continued to battle on with Ruth Bordoli and Katy Smith proving themselves more than capable of doing the work of three people in the midfield to keep the forwards well supplied with scoring chances.  However the pressure from Cowal's extra player told on the accuracy of the the shot-taking.  Cowal managed to pull ahead with a second goal and their backs managed some good clearances to help them get 3 goals ahead by half time.

After the break Forth came out ready to even the scoreline up a a bit, encouraged by their plucky first half performance.  They managed to spend more time inside Cowal's half than in their own but again, Cowal brought their extra player to bear in order to prevent Forth scores.  Rudra Kapila in goal made two excellent stops to keep Cowal's adavantage from showing in the scoreline.  Úna Henry and Mairi Lawson kept the ball out of Forth's half as much as possible but weren't quite able to prevent a final Cowal score before the whistle.

Final score: Cowal and Bute 5 - Forth 1

Man of the match: Katy Smith
