Forth battle through in difficult conditions to take a draw.
30 May 2010

Forth and Tír Conaill lined out on the overgrown and blustery Musselburgh pitch for what would turn out to be a difficult and sometimes bad-tempered game.  Underfoot conditions were atrocious and spoiled what should hav been an excellent match.

The horrendous conditions were playing havoc with both teams' control and hitting.  Forth's first opportunity came after some cat-and-mouse between the teams.  Ruth Bordoli had a good chance at a goal but the long grass held up her shot even as she tried to slip it past the keeper.   Tír Conaill took the lead after 8 minutes after a mix up between the forwards slipped past Rudra Kapila to make it one nil.  5 monutes later Holly Webster had an altercation with her player and both players were warned by the ref.  Both teams traded shots from about 20 minutes into the match with blazing shots from Jenny Durkin and Holly Webster going wide.  There were signs of Tír Conaill tiring with The Forth midfield trio dominating proceedings by the end of the half Mairi Lawson and Liz Perry leaving Rudra with little work to do in goal.

An even start to the second half saw the teams cancel each other out.  10 minutes into the half a flying shot from Jenny Durkin was put out by the Tír Conaill backs for a corner.  Tír Conaill conceded a penalty from this corner which was taken by Ruth.  However, her shot was held up by the jungle-like conditions and the keeper was able to clear it.  A fine one-two play between Jenny and Aoife Fitzgerald saw Jenny fire a shot over the bar but Forth were now starting to show signs of dominance with Natalie Nicholls's hard work atarting to pay off.  Tír Conaill were also showing signs of frustration with the ref telling two of the them off for repeatedly disputing calls.  Forth finally score dwith 5 minutes to go as confsion in the Tír Conaill back line generated by Aoife allowed Holly Webster to slot a rebound shot over the line.  A late surge of pressure from Tír Conaill saw Forth defend well to keep their lines clear.  Both teams were clearly relieved, however, when the final whistle blew.  Forth were disappointed not to haved maintained their 100% win record but were glad to still have managed to take a point away from the match.

Final score: Forth 1 - Tír Conaill  1
