About us

I. Foundation and Constitution

The Edinburgh Spanish Circle was founded in 1932.  The inaugural meeting took place on Thursday 31st March 1932 in the Abercromby Chambers.  A Constitution was drawn up and this was approved in June 1933.  It has been amended a couple of times.

II. Administration

The Circle is run by an Executive Committee, consisting of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant treasurer and six ordinary members, all of whom hold office for two years at a time.  Elections of office-bearers are held at the Annual General Meeting in March.

III. Membership

The Edinburgh Spanish Circle had 42 members last year.   Most of the members are locals with an interest in the Spanish language, Spain, or Latin America.  In addition, The Circle is a place where Spanish or Latin American nationals can meet their compatriots and also make the acquaintance of local people with an interest in their native lands.

The annual subscription fee is £20 (£15 for native speakers of Spanish and full-time students).  Visitors are welcome to attend for the modest fee of £3.00 per meeting.  School pupils may attend free of charge.

 IV. Venue

Meetings are held at the English Speaking Union Gallery (basement), 23 Atholl Crescent, EH3 8HQ at 7.15 for 7.30 PM.

The Edinburgh Spanish Circle is affiliated with the Hispanic Society of Scotland, Glasgow.
