“PRO REGE ET PRO PATRIA."

(For king and for country)

The following is a list of those who have gone from Cawdor and district to serve in the various branches of His Majesty’s forces. It includes several who reside outwith the Parish area proper, but whose names we should otherwise expect to find here. The printing of these local lists, it is hoped, will serve as a permanent record of those who have heard the call of their King and Country at this critical time, and been able to answer it: and it is also in accordance with suggestions made by the recruiting authorities.

Nothing need be said as to this splendid response. It will be seen there are seventy from the Parish, whose population is about 850. Any Corrections or additions to the list will be gladly received for the next issue, probably in February or March.

His Majesty the King has indicated his wish that the first Lord's Day 0f the coming year should be specially apart as a day for humble prayer and intercession throughout the Nation, and the Commission enjoin all its Ministers and people so to observe it, and to invite opportunities of united prayer.
By such National observance, as well as by continuous and united prayer, We may truly as it Nation humble ourselves before God, to seek of him, a right way for us and for our children, and, of His gracious Will, a speedy and right end to this grievous war.—Extract from the Resolution of the Commission of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
A.H.F.

This page contains the names of  those who were going to war in 1914. No doubt there were other men from the area who went after that year. If any one has an old copy of other parish magazines after the above date, I would appreciate a copy.
