Miles 1877 - 1974
John Miles Hammond Thornewill was born Q3 1877 in Chichester, the only child of Arthur Thornewill and Bertha Lilian Lucy Stillwell Freeland.
On 19 August 1916 he was married in Chelsea to Elsie Annabel Lyon
They lived at Copthorne, Sussex, England.
They had two children:-
Jane, born Q3 1920 in London. In Q3 1944 she married Peter M Miller in Westminster. They had two sons, William M born Q4 1945 in Cuckfield, and Robert T born Q4 1948 in Lewes.
Miles was Managing Direstor of the Savoy Hotel. As such, he rather distanced himself from his cousins Violet and Kathleen, lest they take advantage of his position; but they always anyway "stopped at the Grand Hotel" when in London, as it was convenient for their railway Terminus when they travelled to London from their home in Burton-upon-Trent,. There were three local hotels, referred to as "The Rowby", "The Crowdy" and "The Proudy".
