Francis Thornewill was born in July 1722 and baptised 8 July 1722
He becme an Iron merchant
On 7th January 1767 Francis married Sarah Spratley in the Burton Old Church, and he was then a yeoman and edged-tool maker of Stretton .
They had these children -
Elizabeth, born 21 November 1767, died 25 October 1801
John born 17 January 1770 in Burton-on- Trent, died 21 May 1836 in Burton-on-Trent. He was married on 26 November 1795 in Matlock
Francis born 4 October 1771, died 4 December 1846
Anne born 19 February 1774, died 18 September
Thomas born 16 October 1776, died 19 February 1781 in Clay Mills, Burton.
Francis died on 28 February 1807, and was buried 4 March07 at Burton Old Church.
Sarah Spratley
Sarah was baptised on 26 April 1736 at Burton-on-Trent. She was the daughter of John Spratley and his wife Elizabeth, who was born in 1690 and died on 31 January 1765 aged 75.
Sarah's father John was born in May 1703 in Burton-on-Trent to Isaac and Sarah; his father died in February 1722. Sarah's father died on 3 May 1763 in Stretton, aged 60. and he left Sarahe £70, in 2022 that would be worth about £10,000.
Sarah died on 22 November 1800 in Burton-on-Trent, and was buried on 27 November at Burton, her gravestone exists
