Cuirm nan Coisirean
24 March 2007
An Comunn Gàidhealach Meur Loch Iu (the local branch of An Comunn Gàidhealach, Charity No. SCO01282) is to host its 4th Annual Cuirm nan Coisirean (Gathering of Gaelic Choirs) on the 20th, 21st and 22nd April 2007 in Poolewe. The Cuirm nan Coisirean itself is an unusual event within the Gàidhealach because although the choirs and soloists receive adjudications from qualified and highly skilled adjudicators, there are no marks given – only positive, constructive criticism. There is of course a coveted prize for the best performance from the soloists and for the best performance from a choir on the Saturday.
With this being Highland 2007 – the Highland Year of Culture, the local branch have done their utmost to ensure that there are plenty of events happening throughout the year, including the Wester Ross Provincial Mòd on the 28th September 2007. With this in mind Meur Loch Iu have expanded the Cuirm nan Coisirean to include Waulking Demonstrations, the students of Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd, the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music, Plockton and a Celtic Praise. Admission to everything is free with the exception of the Cèilidh on Saturday night for which the charge is £5.
