About Us

We, Russell and Kate Glasgow have a 2 acre field in Argyll on the eastern shore of Loch Fyne. We both have "proper" jobs working in hospitals in Glasgow. In our spare time we run The Veggie Patch, a very small hobby market garden, we sell to Inver Restaurant and a few local people. We are passionate about growing food and other ecological issues. We believe that without the use of pesticides, fungicides or herbicides the food is tastier and healthier, it is fresh, seasonal and local.  We love showing people around the field and welcome volunteer help.  You can see lots of photos here

We have a big polytunnel and a smaller one, six 10x10m veggie patches, soft fruit, a small orchard and we keep 2 ducks, 1 cockerel and 19 hens. The field is surrounded with wildlife friendly windbreak hedging and willow "fedging" also there is a pond/bog garden.

We grow and sell a wide variety of fruit, vegetables and herbs including rare and unusual along side the more familiar ones. The salad is very popular being an attractive tasty mix of salad leaves, herbs and flowers. This year we did well with cucumbers. tomatoes, courgettes, squash, potatoes and grapes.
The produce is grown without the use of chemicals, instead we make lots of compost, comfrey/nettle/seaweed juice and have a wormfarm.

The seeds are mainly sourced from Real Seeds also The Organic Gardening Catalogue. Fruit trees and bushes are sourced from The Tree Shop, Cairndow. Packaging is kept to a minimum - customers are encouraged to bring their own containers.

We use Fertile Fibre Seed & Potting Compost. It is expensive but worth it, a lovely soft growing medium which uses coir so does not result in the depletion of peat bogs. We can even sell you some also we have a selection of good quality pots, plug trays and cell modules for you to grow your own
