ALL ACTIVITIES ARE POSTPONED UNTIL THE COVID 19 OUTBREAK IS RESOLVED AND IT IS DECIDED THAT CLOSE-CONTACT SOCIAL DANCING IS SAFE ONCE MORE

Welcome to the TangoNess website. A space where you'll find information about classes, milongas, practicas and any other tango related activities taking place in the Scottish Highlands.

TangoNess is a community dance group promoting Argentine tango in the Highlands. Based in Inverness, we are a not-for-profit organization established in 2011. The group is organized by a volunteer committee and arranges lessons, workshops, practicas and milongas. We are a friendly group and would encourage you to drop in at our venues any Monday or Thursday night to dance or just to see what we do.

Once the basics are learnt you can go on to develop your skills with us, and with other groups.

Argentine Tango is danced all over Scotland, the UK, and the world with frequent Tango festivals providing opportunities to take workshops with world-class, professional dancers.

There are no medal tests or assessments to burden you. Your development is down to you. It's all about enjoying the music, the dance and the company.

VENUES FOR LESSONS AND PRACTICAS

Thursdays in the Green Hall, Sinclair Terrace, Smithton, Inverness, IV2 7NP. The venue is on the eastern outskirts of Inverness off the A96.  There is plenty of parking in front of the hall.

Mondays in Balnain Community Hall, IV63 6TJ. Follow the A831 from Drumnadrochit towards Cannich. After 4.5 miles the Hall is on the left 50 metres before the pedestrian crossing

LESSONS

Foundation classes run for 10 weeks and introduce the basic steps and techniques of Argentine tango. On completion of the course you will be able to enjoy social dancing at  the milongas.

Open-level classes are suitable for beginners and experienced dancers alike. Beginners will be taught the basics of tango, and we will build on the skills of experienced dancers. The mix of experience is beneficial to all.

Technique and connection classes provide more intensive work on the techniques of Argentine tango, allowing dancers to extend their competency.

WORKSHOPS

We try to hold workshops at least 3 times in the Autumn and in the Spring. They might be taught by visiting teachers or by our resident teachers. They are usually held on a Saturday or a Sunday and followed by either an evening milonga or by a late afternoon tea dance. The venues will vary depending on availability. Forthcoming workshops are publicised by email to those registered on our mailing list, and on this website.

PRACTICAS

Practicas are held every week after the lessons, and allow you to practise what you learnt in the preceding lessons or workshops, or just to try out new steps and figures with other dancers. Guidance is available from the teachers if you request it.  This is the time to discuss problems with your partner and to hone your technique and style so that you can dance smoothly at the milongas.
