FRANKENSTEIN & HIS BRIDE

BUILDING THE MONSTER!!....WELL THE HEAD ACTUALLY

The starting point for me was to get a accurate shape of my head, well this could have been acheaved by making an allaborate cast of my head by I found a simpler solution in that I had an old top hat that fitted snug to my head and rigth depth.

First  I enclosed the inner to the hat with clingfilm and set about filling it with plaster, once set volare!! out pop the head shape/former (see photo below)

plastercast from bowler

Next I built up Franky's head with clay (see photo below)

Sculpture finished I proceeded to prepare for the cast by dividing the head into two by inserting small square pieces of card down the centre line from ear to ear, once this was done I wrapped each section (front & Back) with three layers of modroc plaster bandages.  When the bandages had set I carefully remove each section from the head then used more plaster bandages to join the sections together (see photo below)

With the plaster cast dry it was time to get out the latex, the first batch I add a pigment by mixing up a small quantity of acrylic paint in a flesh pink colour then adding to a small cup full of latex, once fully mixed I paint it on the inside of the mould. The cup produced enough for two layers leaving it to dry between coats then I add a further four thin coats, when all dry I peeled from mould          (see trimmed latex head below)

Trimmed to fit around the ears now for the skull staples and hair first layer made from £1 wig bought from Poundland  (see image below)

Hair wig was held together in a spiral shape so I cut it up in strips to build the layers of hair, glued on with contact adhesive (see image below)

Finish head after a bit of a hair cut (see image below)
