The Red Jehovahs

"A lord, an MP, an AM, a PCC, a Councillor, a candidate and lots of very dedicated campaigners." - Jeremy Miles, Twitter

Same old faces, same old story. They might be smiling (all the way to the bank in the case of at least several of them) but for the rest of us life is a tough, daily struggle, not a big ego trip, page for your scrapbook, or patting yourself on the back for helping out the hoi polloi. Not some sixth form debating society tossing around political, sociological and economic theories about what is wrong in our lives. Or posting endless photos on Twitter and Facebook of "TeamNeath" canvassing, grinning like the simpleton Forrest Gump or a bunch of demented Jehovah's Witnesses, as if you've found the secret of life and it consists of wearing a red rosette!

Why has Jeremy Miles followed the old Establishment order of referring to a "Lord" first, then a pecking order downwards as far as "dedicated campaigners"? On that basis, can I assume that the peasants who vote for him would come at the end of the list? How regimented,  how disappointing, but how typical of our politicians, albeit aspiring ones. It's the unpaid canvassers who support you who should take pride of place, not those in your group who have become rich on representing the electorate.

Have a good look at this lot and remember they've held the reins of power at local council level in Neath since time immemorial, regional power in Wales since 1999, and a majority government in Westminster from 1997 until 2010.

Have a look at how their lives have changed for the better. Then compare and contrast to your own. All this time to make a real difference. But to whom exactly? Remember that when you come to place your X in the May election.

And don't knock on my door. My dog's named Tebbit and has been trained to bite anyone wearing a red rosette. You've been warned.
