God save us from Boyo's Soundbites

Stephen "Boyo" Kinnock manning the barricades in support of steel

STEEL

A heavy industry around which whole communities developed and depended.
Providing employment for many thousands, predominantly men.
Well paid, skilled work where whole families found employment for generations.
Physically demanding, sometimes dangerous.
Produced something of vital importance for any industrial nation.
Environmentally, a dirty, polluting industry which scars the landscape, creates dust, fumes, noise and HGV traffic.
Traditionally always elect a Labour MP.

Will someone please explain to this loquacious, latte-loving, Labour la-di-da that the very industry he describes as the "beating heart" of his community would never be there without another heavy industry that he now says belongs to the past. There's a certain irony, a lot of hypocrisy, and an appalling level of ignorance in there somewhere!

Look. I know where he's coming from. We all want to live in a carbon neutral, sustainable world. But neither the coal industry nor the steel industry go anywhere near meeting these fine ideals. It ill becomes an interloping, Red Prince, Labour MP in the Aberavon constituency to hold up banners in public decrying the very industry that gave rise to the development of the South Wales valleys in the first place.

Just so Boyo fully understands how important a role that coal plays in the production of steel here's a very recent article by someone a bit cleverer than him that explains it.
