PC Bryant

Bit of a Twitter hissy fit this week from Chris Bryant MP, refusing to celebrate the crowning of the new World Heavyweight Boxing Champion, Tyson Fury. To anyone that follows boxing, Tyson is a familiar character, outspoken, manic, bizarrely behaved and 6 feet 9 inches! He is from a family of Travellers, which makes me suspect he is a Roman Catholic. Crossing himself before his fights suggests that even more.

The headline seeking, openly homosexual Rhondda MP stated on his Twitter feed, after Fury had won the title from Wladimir Klitschko, "I'm not celebrating Tyson Fury's win. His aggressive style of foul homophobia is precisely the kind that leads to young gay suicides".

Where is the evidence for such an outrageous statement? It's the sort of slur that has for too long been hurled at anyone who dares to voice an opinion that isn't in line with "politically correct" thinking. You get it on the Neath Ferret as well. People who write an honest opinion about something (not just me!) are called cranks, bigots, racist and other things because they dare express views that contradict the world as they see it. You will note that the same people spout fine words and phrases like democracy, tolerance and freedom of speech - but it's just bull isn't it? They are in my opinion more intolerant than the people they condemn, because it's freedom of speech etc as long as it complies with their way of thinking. Voices of dissent shall be abused, intimidated and silenced if at all possible.

But I digress. Let's get back to the attention seeking Bryant.

So what did the 27 years old Fury say on this subject that upset Bryant so much? This:

"We live in an evil world, the devil is very strong at the minute, very strong, and I believe the end is near. The bible tells me the end is near. The world tells me the end is near. Just a short few years, I reckon, away from being finished".

"There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home: one of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other one’s paedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalised?"

You might believe that these are sentiments that might be expressed by many practising Christians. They could well be expressed by many Muslims too, who, as far as I know, oppose homosexuality, abortion and paedophilia. So, let's assume it's not Tyson Fury who made these statements, but Amir Khan - another famous British boxer, but a Muslim. Do you honestly believe that Bryant would have posted the same statement? I don't! Because, of course, it ain't PC to criticise Muslims! It's a typical cheap shot from a man who once wore cheap underpants.

Bryant, like too many politicians (and particularly of the Left), has aimed his barbs at a man who has not had the benefits of the private education that he has. He is too ready to jump on the PC Bandwagon, and was undoubtedly aiming to keep himself in the public eye (because as another homosexual, many times more talented than Bryant will ever be, said - "there is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that's not being talked about").

Bryant should reflect on his statement about Fury. He is right to not celebrate Fury's win if he doesn't want to. He is even right to suggest that Fury's comments are "foul homophobia", though personally I disagree. But to then take this a country mile further and suggest that these kind of remarks have led to young gay people committing suicide is a step too far. Anyone that knows anything about such a disturbing and upsetting subject knows there is nothing simplistic in the terrible decision of someone to end their life. Bryant, as a man supposedly well educated and as a man in the public eye, should know better.
