Sort it out, NPT!

This week's topic is not something I usually write about. A home made video is linked to.  I apologise it's not that clear. I made it myself, one arm out of the van holding the shaking camera with cars close up behind me wondering what I was playing at. The video is first recorded at one quarter speed to help pick up what I was filming. The last half minute it replays part of the recording at full speed.

Aberdulais Falls is a well publicised National Trust property in the Neath Valley. It's the only NT property in our area to the best of my knowledge. Some years ago a new visitors building was built there to replace the out of date facility on the site. A tourist information office was provided there as well. At the time it was stated the Falls had 27,000 visitors a year and it was anticipated numbers would increase afterwards.

Most visitors to the site I would guess are from outside Neath. When they leave the site, if they are returning to the M4 they will likely travel by the route where this video was filmed. The video was in fact taken along the link road that runs from the roundabout where you can drive back towards Tonna via the old Railway Tavern and the Calor Gas plant or turn right along the short link road and get back on to the A465, heading generally south towards Neath and the M4.

I've driven all my life, all over the UK and in Europe. I have seldom, if ever, come across such a filthy, litter strewn portion of road. Visitors to Neath Port Talbot who drive this slip road must go back with the worst impression of our area.

Where have our councillors been not to have got onto this? Don't tell me it's only a recent problem because it's been like this for months and months. Any councillor coming to Neath from Aberdulais, maybe Cadoxton, perhaps Tonna, the Dulais valley - they must have seen this, otherwise they are too blind to be driving. When Peter Hain is clocking up the expenses travelling around his manor he must see this. Every time he heads to Neath Railway Station to get out of Neath as quick as he can - he probably heads this way.

Our Councillors and our MP are handsomely rewarded for the public service they are supposed to be providing. You are falling down on your job.

And where have our Council officers been? You don't just have to be a Highways Engineer to know there's a problem long overdue being dealt with here. Any idiot can see it.

There are lots of local volunteer groups who pick up litter in areas where they can. They shame you by their action and your inaction.

This litter is a collection job for "the professionals" because it's along a road. But NPT are yet again showing themselves up to be just a bunch of amateurs!
