Skye & Lochalsh Running Club – Kinloch Forest Race Results 2013

The Skye & Lochalsh Running Club Winter Race Series kicked off on Saturday with the 4-mile Kinloch Forest Trail Race based around the Leitir Fura trails in Sleat.  The weather was horrible with sleet and rain showers following each other in close succession.  Despite this, a field of 30 runners lined up on the forest road as a small patch of blue sky opened up over Kinloch.

A quick pace was set by Jeremy Rossiter with a few guys following closely behind as they gained height over the Sound of Sleat and passed back under the rain clouds.  The first few runners made their way down the zig-zag path through the old village but unfortunately Chris Walker, who was in the top five at this point, slipped and fell, gashing his knee.  He was aided by several of the following runners, and taken back to the start and on to the Mackinnon Memorial Hospital for treatment.  The race continued with the front runners unaware of the accident behind, and was won by Jeremy Rossiter in 28 minutes and 25 seconds, followed by Hugh Standen in 29 minutes and 22 seconds.  Third home was Norman Gillies in 30 minutes and 39 seconds.  The middle of the field were held up in helping the injured runner, but first lady home was Iona Mackinnon in 38 minutes and 47 seconds, second was Joanne Proctor in 40.35 and third was Sandra Mather in 41.20.

Full results are listed below, though many runners stopped to assist Chris which affected their finishing times.

Jeremy Rossiter (28:25), Hugh Standen (29:22), Norman Gillies (30:39), Phil Dewar (30:41), Daniel Mills (31:18), Andy Neison (31:33), Niall Till (33:05), Chris MacNab (33:51), Gilies Contier (34:12), Matt Barratt (36:48),  Dave Till (37:44), Stephen Cox (38:30), Iona Mackinnon (38:47), Joanne Proctor (40:35), Sandra Mather (41:20), Neil Roberts (41:45), Richard Gilson (42:34), Andrew O’Grady (44:44), Ali Wilson (46:50), Justine Ramsey (51:21), Paul Grover (53:45), Anne Brandie (56:35) and Tim Mills (56:47).

Thanks must go to the following runners who gave up their race to assist Chris: Tay Healy, Morten Hanson, Sarah Stephenson, Gill and Wheldon Houlsby and David Pringle.  Thanks also to Martin Pringle, Dan Mills and to the couple who were in the forest with their vehicle and took Chris out to the car park.

The next race in the Winter Race Series is the Braes Road Run on 7th December.
