Race 1 Winter Series - Kinloch Forest Trail
10 November 2009

Saturday saw the first race in the annual Skye & Lochalsh Running Club Winter Race Series. The race takes in the 4-mile route around Kinloch Forest in Sleat, ascending from the start to gain magnificent views over the Sound of Sleat to Knoydart, Loch Hourn and Arnisdale, and south to Isleornsay and beyond.

With a few of the regulars, including both of last years’ champions, absent a competitive field left the car park to complete the race. First back was Robert McCluskie in 33 minutes and 39 seconds, followed by Neil Roberts (34.11) and Neil Turner (34.49). The first lady home was in-form Fiona Macdonald in 40 minutes and 23 seconds with Rachael Jones (42.05) and Fiona Middleton (49.25) the other women competitors taking points.

One competitor (who wishes to remain nameless), not satisfied with the challenging terrain, took a longer, muddier route and was disqualified for making it much more difficult than it needed to be! Thankfully they returned in one piece and hopefully the trainers will recover from their ordeal in time for the next race which is at Braes on Saturday 5th December.
