Trust Snippets - w/e 19th June

Your summery (sic) updates;

  • We will be, weather permitting, starting to manufacture bags of split log for next autumn/winter (summer?) with the help of Richard Livett next week. We will be hoping to start selling this product shortly….watch out for more details soon.
  • Andy Cumming of Mann Judd Gordon (our accountants) comes for his annual two day root through our books next week as we look to deliver our 2014/15 financial information.
  • Work starts on new internal forest roading in Tormore Forest in the next few days. This will allow us to access the next area to be harvested in our community forest this Autumn.
  • This week SCT staff have given advice to several community groups on subjects as diverse as governance, running a Post Office and buying petrol pumps. Groups included Kyles of Sutherland Trust, Bernera Community Association and Fas Mor.
  • Fergus Stewart of Lochinver will be giving a walk and talk about all things kiln related to Trustees tomorrow as the Trust continues to look at the feasibility of siting a working pottery in Tormore Forest.
  • The Environment group are looking for volunteers to come along this Sunday at 10am to help clear out the fank area in Tormore Forest. Plans are afoot to make this a picnic area and viewpoint destination for all the community and visitors to Sleat. Meet at the forest entrance.
  • Angus will be presenting at a Social Enterprise Academy training course in Uist on Tuesday.
  • Several Skyenet broadband updates for you as follows; We are now accepting customers from Ord and Tokavaig, our Aird mast site is now live, we are still struggling to get more connected backhaul from BT to widen out our network.....hoping this will be concluded within next week....but not holding breath. Finally SCT is to take part in a broadband research project led by Edinburgh University with four other west coast communities. This could give Skyenet a share of up to 1GB of uncontested backhaul by year end. First meeting a week on Friday (26th) with all parties in attendance.
  • SCT has signed up to Highland Council's Carbon Clever Declaration.
  • Interviews have taken place with the three tenderers for our Trading redevelopment feasibility study. A decision regarding who will carry out this work will be made at the next SCT board meeting on the 29th June.
  • Delighted to hear that the Trust have been given an exemption from water, waste water and drainage charges....a saving of £237 per annum.
  • Trading and Renewables board meetings next week.
