Sleat Community Trust – Environment Group
Buidheann Àrainneachd Urras Coimhearsnachd Shlèite
Greetings to all residents of Sleat from the Environmental Group.
This is a general information circular for everyone interested in matters concerning Sleat’s natural environment. This includes members of Sleat Community Trust as a one off to make sure nobody is missed.
First I should explain we are rationalising our Distribution List for receipt of the occasional emails. If for any reason this needs to be up-dated so far as you are concerned or you know of anyone else interested in joining us, please let me know.
I am sure you will be pleased to learn that we now have plans for three early Spring talks. Starting at 7.30 pm, details are as follows:
Thursday, 19th February in Talla Dearg, Isleornsay - A Double bill on Sea Birds
White Tailed Eagles and companion sea birds around Sleat with research into the fascinating Manx Shearwaters of Rhum.
Wednesday, 18th March in Ardvasar Hall – Plants and Soils
What goes on underground and above ground.
Wednesday 15th April in Ardvasar Hall – The story of Pine Martens
Comprehensive pros and cons of this interesting species.
On each occasion, there will be time for questions, debates and refreshments. Although free, donations will be welcome.
For future planning, it would be good to know areas of interest people might have or your expertise in environmental issues that you are happy to share.
For example, have you concerns/interests in climate change and the wider world, reintroduction of past species, lynx, beavers, etc., and, closer to home, the local biodiversity of Sleat including projects in the development of Tormore as a community forest and the Bothy plans at Dalavil?
Please give us your feedback and I’ll try my best to respond comprehensively.
