A bumper catch up edition of Trust updates;
• Lots of new stock in our wee shop. Buckets, spades, fishing nets and a new range of canned Belvoir juices….oh and the latest must have, packets of loom bands!
• Members of the production team from the new Gaelic drama Bannan visited the Trust offices on Weds for ideas for their set. One of the characters works for a rural community group!
• The first ever 'Made in Sleat' arts and crafts selling exhibition closed its doors last Saturday. Several hundred people visited the show at the Duisdale Hall which showcased the fantastic work of 16 Sleat residents. We thank all those who came and saw the exhibition and to the artists and craftspeople for their hard work and enthusiasm for the project. Many thanks to Jane and Heather McDermott for making this such a successful event.
• Just over a week to go to get those Housing Need Surveys into the Trust by filling in the form supplied in the recent newsletter or by completing the online survey which is still open at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TKVXBCK (closing date 15th Aug).
• Disappointment 1; Unfortunately we have been told that we were not successful in our funding application to the Enterprise Ready Fund for new fuel pumps for our Trading facility. We will now relook at how we can raise the £35K required for this project through other means.
• Disappointment 2; We have decided not to continue the “Great Sleat Tour” beyond its one month pilot run. The customer numbers booking just wasn’t there to make it economically viable.
• Interviews took place this week for our two current vacancies. An offer has now been made to an individual for our Graduate Development Officer role and we will be re-advertising for our Trading Sales Assistant position.
• Good meeting with Community Broadband Scotland (CBS) in regard to some clarification of our funding application. We should know by the end of the month if we are to be successful. Also good news that the Forestry Commission have agreed to lease a small site for one of our masts in the Kinloch forest area.
• Visit Sleat has had meetings with Transport Scotland and Highland Council in regard to better signage which will promote our area at the Sleat road end. From these meetings an application for funding has been made to Highland Council to aid with planning, design and construction of signage.
• We said goodbye to Calum Stiven this week as his one year contract as a Graduate Enterprise Officer came to an end. We would hope to re-employ Calum on a short term contract basis for our Broadband roll out should we get the above CBS funding. Thanks to him for all his hard work for SCT over this time.
• Domestic log sales are available at £31.50 per tonne, which includes VAT, plus delivery in 10 tonne loads. These logs will be in 5 metre lengths thus more room will be needed to store and some help with handling will be required during cutting.
