This week’s updates;

• It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Annabel Pendlebury, a director of Sleat Community Trust. Annabel was a great supporter of the Trust over several years and in her role as director was influential in many aspects of our work. In particular her chairing of the Environment Group led to a number of well supported events and initiatives within our community. Perhaps her greatest legacy will be the Aspen project which will lead to the protection and regeneration of this native tree in our parish. Our deepest sympathy is with Chris and family at this time.

• We are extending our closing date for applications for the position of Sales Assistant based at our busy Armadale Post Office and Petrol Station. Our rate for this vacancy is £7.50 per hour and we can now guarantee a minimum of 30 hours per week on a flexible shift system during the summer season. An immediate start is available for a well organised, customer orientated individual with previous experience of a retail environment. • Sabhal Mor Ostaig is the venue tomorrow for a meeting of several community groups (with Trust reps in attendance) and individuals in relation to a possible large scale north west coast wireless broadband network. Prior to this meeting the Trust will meet with Rural Broadband Network to discuss our own Sleat based infrastructure needs before finishing off our application to Community Broadband Scotland.

• Good to help out Community Energy Scotland this week with wind data from our anemometer which logged speed and direction over 14 months in Sleat several years ago.

• The Trust along with several other Sleat representatives attended a meeting with Finlay Macrae, CalMac's Network Operations Manager this Tuesday at Sabhal Mor Ostaig. One of the main outcomes of this meeting was to set up a Skye/Lochalsh/Lochaber Transport Forum that would ensure all organisations and transport operators could work together to improve a range of issues within this sector for our area.

• Meetings ago go next week with staff involved in get togethers with Chris Nixon of Forestry Commission Scotland, Eileen Gardiner of Social Investment Scotland and the Skye and Lochalsh Council for Voluntary Organisations.

• Today the Trust is being judged as part of its nomination for Scotland's Finest Woods Awards. The Trust has been short listed in the Community Woodlands section and in the category of Promoting Viable Livelihoods (economic development and regeneration focus).
