Your new updates as follows;

• Happy to say that the Trust has been successful, finally, with its SRDP application for funding for the Tormore wood fuel facility. A grant of £27.7K has been secured which means that we can, at last, start the project. Work has already begun by freshening up previously supplied quotes for the building of the shed and necessary ground works.  We would hope that the facility will be up and running in time for next Spring.
• Sharon attended a seminar yesterday hosted by Staffin Community Trust titled “Culture as a community asset – From local to global”. This bilingual Gaelic-English event showed ways to maximise the benefits of cultural assets for your community.
• A community group from Fife has shown some interest in the leasing of our anemometer mast.
• Kirsten Laurie of South Islay Development Officer popped into the office on Weds to hear about the work of the Trust and in particular the filling station as they are looking at the potential of owning such an asset.
• Several of the directors and staff of the Trust will be participating in Heart Start training on the 29th November. This will show us how to use the community defibrillator which is located at the filling station and what to do when confronted with a heart attack victim.
• Tables still available for the car boot sale on the 24th of November at the Trust’s offices. Spaces are £8 and indoor space (portacabin) will be available should the weather be inclement. To book your place contact Sue on 01471 844722 or 07946 547102.
• Trading and SRL board meetings are next Wednesday.
• The Zero Waste Scotland/Trust sponsored local food and drink evening is now set for Weds 28th November at Ardvasar Hall from 7pm. There will be a demonstration of Xmas Chutney making by Calina Conserves, venison product tasting from Clan Donald Estates, whisky tasting by the Gaelic Whiskies and local seafood recipes and nibbles.
• Simon Helliwell of HEBNET will be visiting Sleat next week and on Thursday will meet with reps from the new community broadband group. Simon will also be fitting “proof of concept” equipment to Tarskavaig Hall to prove the worth of his companies fast wireless broadband solution. This, if all goes to plan, will mean that the hall will have the potential for up to 8MB of broadband speed for local users.
