Back from holiday with a bumper crop of updates for you all.
• Starting with the great news that Sleat has won yet another award. The community has been placed as runners up in the Gaelic community of the year awards run by Bòrd na Gàidhlig. The Trust will consider after consultation on how best to spend the £1500 prize fund. Thanks to Lisa Corse and Donald Angie MacLennan for doing all the hard work to enter Sleat into the competition.
• A very successful broadband conference was held at Sabhal Mor Ostaig last week. Encouraging developments and solutions are to be researched and taken forward with the hope that faster speeds can be gained by all disadvantaged townships within Sleat.
• There will be a public meeting in Sèomar Chruinneachaidh, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig next Thursday about potential fish farm developments in Lochs Slapin and Erisort of the North West coast of Sleat. Go along at 7.30pm to find out more and about what action can be taken if you don’t support these developments.
• You have until the 23rd of October to get your nomination forms in if you wish to be considered to be a director of Sleat Community Trust. Our AGM is on the 30th October when all nominations will be heard.
• Scottish Woodlands visited today to discuss future harvesting contracts. The main timber haulage for phase 1 and 2 harvesting will be completed by the end of the month.
• Rhoda Grant MSP will visit next Friday to find out more about the work of the Trust along with Alaistar Nicolson of Borve.
• The work continues apace in the extension to the filling station. Electricity is now in place with new lighting fitted and with a toilet now going in. It is hoped that the majority of work will be completed by the end of the month.
• As off next Monday the shop goes on to winter opening hours which are as follows;

Thursday 9am – 5pm
Friday 9am – 5pm
Saturday 9am – 1pm
Sunday – Closed
• Next Monday we meet with Camuscross and Duisdale Initiative as per of our regular update meetings.
• A satellite broadband supplier (Avonline) will be visiting Sleat on the 8th of November as per a request by Dave Thomson MSP. A time and place where their demonstration van will be located will be confirmed in the next week. Other broadband suppliers are available.
• The Trust’s Environment Group will be holding a native tree growing workshop on Saturday November 3rd in Ardvasar Hall. Sessions from 11am to 1pm & 2pm to 5pm. Drop in at any time
