Trust Snippets w/e 27th July

Few updates from this week’s workload;
• The first awards have been made from the Tormore Community Fund. Sleat Playgroup, The Garden of Skye project and Fas Mor will benefit from grant funding. Two further recently received applications will be going forward to the next Fund Award Committee meeting which will be held in early September.
• An application to the Highland Discretionary Fund has been made by Sleat Renewables Ltd for £5K toward the building of Tormore Woodfuel Facility.
• Dr Peter Wilson of Napier Univesity visited this week and gave a presentation of how the Norwegian Tourist Route project could benefit the area. The project is about bringing new architecture designed features to main tourist routes. This could be as small as a contemporary designed layby to a hanging Perspex balcony jutting out over a well know viewpoint. There may be some mileage in this to get Tormore Forest on the map with say an iconic entrance feature to the forest.
• SRL have decided not to be part of Amanda Bryan’s proposed link up with Romanian Forest Groups in a joint project. Lack of resources at a critical time in the forest’s development is the main reason.
• A new application has to the Highland Transport Fund has to be in by the end of August. A decision has to be made whether we continue with the subsidised taxi scheme or look at an alternative.
• The Trust has been liaising with Camuscross and Duisdale about a joint community event and it looks as if this will now be on the 10th November. Soups and Stovies will be the food theme with a ceilidh.
• Serena Smart sat in as a potential new director of the Trading Company at this week's board meeting and we didn’t scare her off so her ratification as a director will be sought from the main Trust board.
