Sleat Loch pulled from market

Sleat loch pulled from public sale ~ Stad air a chur ri reic lochan Shlèiteach

There was a flurry of activity when it was learned that the small loch and reservoir on Allt Duisdale was due to be auctioned on 25 February by Scottish Water, along with other unused assets throughout the Highlands.
The loch had been earmarked as having potential for a small community hydro-scheme: the Sleat Community Trust Energy study for Sleat highlighted that the reservoir has the potential for a 40kW hydro scheme returning in the region of £10,000 per annum in revenue to the community.
However, given all the other project, this was not an immediate priority.
The news of the auction changed all that, as the community stood to lose this asset for ever. Sleat was alive with emails and telephone calls and an urgent meeting was held between Sleat Renewables, the Trust and Camuscross Community Initiative (CCI). Several people put in a lot of quick hard work.
The good news is that Scottish Water has now agreed to remove the loch from sale and give the community two months to register an interest.
Sleat Community Trust, Camuscross Community Initiative and Sleat Renewables will now discuss how best to take this forward.
