REPORT OF THE 2014 ROCKVALE REBOUND

BOBALONG CASHADAY SPONSORED WALK

Written by Abby aged 14, Graeme aged 15 and Laura, also aged 14.

Between the 4th and  5th of October, seven  people took part in a fundraising charity walk for Rockvale Rebound. On Sunday six of the seven people, consisting of the three of us, Hazel, Ricky and Sarah walked from The Meadow Centre, Dumbarton to The Glen Lusset in Old Kilpatrick, a distance of approximately 6 miles. Margaret also completed the walk, but on the Saturday as she could not make it on the Sunday.

The participants met at 1:30 on Sunday  to begin the walk and start heading towards the first ‘pit stop’, where we were kindly provided with snacks and water from ‘the pit crew’, A.K.A.  Amelia and Davie.  After a small interval, we continued with our journey. The weather on the day was ideal for walking, not too hot and not too cold, with no rain. The path was pleasant because there was a calm, peaceful atmosphere and it was very autumnal with the leaves glowing in the sunlight showing varieties of colours, such as gold, yellow, orange and brown.   The path took us along the River Clyde, near the railway line and the Milton Animal Home.

Our second stop was at the half-way point at Bowling roundabout, where the cycle path crosses the road, which we reached at a good pace, with some motivation from ‘the pit crew’ at the end of the woodland path.

The next section of the walk took us towards Bowling.  Just before we reached our next meeting point we walked down a hill through a small park towards the road where we sat for a short five minute break followed by a brisk walk to the pit stop.  Then we arrived at The Bowling Basin, where we were once again greeted by ‘the pit crew’. This was a refreshing part of the walk, as it changed from being sheltered by trees to being out in the open to the sunshine and water. There were some lovely boats here to admire through our final section of the walk. As we walked along the dappled path, we were accompanied by different varieties of wildlife, such as ducks and swans with cygnets following behind in an orderly line. The path was very busy with several cyclists, joggers and walkers who were also enjoying the weather and scenery.

As we walked under the Erskine Bridge, it was quite a sight to see it from underneath and we really appreciated the sheer size of it. By this point we were very determined to reach our final destination as it was only a short while away. With one final stretch, we all met Amelia and Davie again at The Glen Lusset to receive our certificates.

We all thoroughly enjoyed this experience and are thrilled to have been able to raise money for a good cause.  Thanks to generous donors, we raised £508 for Rockvale Rebound.  Thank you to all who donated. Your money will make a great difference and is very much appreciated.
