2011 CAN COLLECTION.

Over the past 18 years or so, the Rockvale Rebound has undertaken to raise finds by holding a Sponsored Walk, and they have all been very successful.  However, a proposal was made earlier this year that we should perhaps embark on something a little different which would not only raise funds but also raise the profile of the organisation.  It was with that in mind that the committee decided on a can collection.  We approached several businesses asking permission to hold the event as a ‘Front of Store’ fund raiser.  We were only successful in securing such permission from Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch.
The date chosen was Saturday, October 1st and the management of the premises were very helpful indeed, providing us with appropriate space and a table to set up a display.
However, the day turned out to be rather miserable, weather-wise and Loch Lomond Shores was not anything like as busy as it might otherwise have been.  It was not torrential rain, but was steady the whole day and the shortage of people around was a little bit depressing.  That being the case, though, we did manage to raise around £335, so it was certainly not a failure.  As well as which quite a number of people expressed interest in exactly what the Rockvale Rebound was and what it did, with quite a number of flyers being taken away.  We learned a lot from the experience and have already set about making plans for another such event next year, but with some amendments, such as the date and the positioning of the collection points and the committee are all enthusiastic about it, because we intend to ‘capture’ as many people as we possibly can from visiting bus tours and, hopefully the Farmers Market.  So, watch this space.
