Summer Outing
29 August 2009

Our annual summer outing this year was a trip to Inverary on 29th August, 2009.

This was not our original plan. We had actually set out heading for Lochgilphead, a destination we had never been to before and we had booked lunch at the Waterside Restaurant just outside Inveraray where the Argyle Caravan Park is sited. This we did and everybody enjoyed a lunch which can only be described as superlative. It had come highly recommended and we were certainly not let down.
The weather though was proving to be a bit more inclement than we would have liked so the decision was then taken to head back to Inveraray where we knew there were plenty of places of interest to visit where it was possible to remain indoors. Whilst some of us were looking forward to an afternoon of shopping in Inverary, it turned to rain. We were then given the option of going out in it or staying on the coach to be taken to Inverary Castle. Most people chose the shopping. The rest of us found Inverary Castle was a pleasant surprise. Disembarking from the coach, preparing to make a quick dash to inside the castle, the clouds broke, the rain stopped and we were stopped in our tracks by the sight of a beautiful double rainbow.

The castle itself is huge. After a partially guided tour we sat outside in the garden for a civilised blether. The castle is highly recommended by those who took that option. We then went back to our coach at which point the rain was back on. We hurried to pick up the hardy shoppers who were caught in the rain.

All in all, everyone had a most enjoyable trip and it can be taken as read that a few pounds changed hands in the shops and other establishments.
