RUSKIN AND THE PRE-RAPHAELITE BROTHERHOOD

This talk explores the relationsip between Ruskin and the brotherhood, firstly by Ruskin's childhood and upbringing, his days at Oxford and abroad, and his subsequent influence on the art world after his defence of Turner. How, why and he turned his attention to the Brotherhood and brought them to public prominence, even though one member brought Ruskins personel live into the publics eye.

This talk offers an overview of British Art, looking at the mediums used the styles adopted and the influences from home and abroad.

Who like his father in law, John Linnel, was captivated by the work of Blake, infuenced his life as a painter, one of England's most unique artists.

STANHOPE FORBES

Late 19th. Cent. artist, influenced by the French artist, La Page, who was an exponent of the art movement realism, and developed that style throught his painting career. Also Founder of the Newlyn Schoolof art.

GEORGE CLAUSEN

Became professor of art at the R.A. schools in the early 20th. cent. had a number of lectures published. Painted rural scenes and communities following the the realism style, popular in France where he studied.

HELEN ALLINGHAM

English watercolour painter, known for her paintings of cottages and rural folk. The pictures are of old thatched and half timbered cottages, often painted to bring attention to modernisation of these properties and the loss that brings to the English country                        ------------------------------------------------------

EDWARD LEAR 

Often known for his nonsence poetry and verse, however in his day he was a reknowned animal and exotic bird painter, who lived and worked much of his time abroad.

RICHARD PARKES BONNINGTON

English painter who spent much of his time painting abroad, especially in France ,and painted in the style of the French Romantics.

SIR EDWIN LANDSEER

A popular andinteresting victorian painter, mainly painting animals, known for the Monach of the Glen, and the lions in Trafalger square.

Painter in watercolour mainly of young children and cats, thought of as a chocolate box artist, however had an interesting story to tell.

Brilliant painter of near easten subjects in in very bright and detailed watercolour, often compared with the pre Raphaelites.

Painter of rural scenes and farm animals, most often he depicted horses in yards with cows and sheep. popular in his day.
