Aurora 2016 Mar 06.

The Great Aurora of 2016 March 06/07.

A selection from some 300 or so exposures taken throughout the first part of the display on the late evening and night of the 6th March. Cloud was intermittent throughout the night, making work in the early hours of the 7th very difficult. From what we can deduce, the display lasted until twilight started to encroach at around 04h UT.

We draw attention to an image from 19h 39m looking NEE with Jupiter and part of constellation Leo.

Also, at 19h 45m with constellations Aries and Andromeda (right) including the Andromeda Galaxy (M31 centre/right) with two faint meteors appearing to pass either side of the galaxy: difficult but worth enlarging – if you know where to look for all three!

A number of coronal examples are displayed.
