Save this church

Save This Ancient Parish Church

A Christmas concert was held last week to save Cilybebyll church. An estimated £68,000 is needed to repair the roof of the ancient parish church. Sisters Angharad and Lowri Thomas decided to help this cause by organising a concert featuring fellow students from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The concert itself was held in the neighbouring parish of Saint Matthew's Church at Dyffryn, Bryncoch, as it provided a larger capacity for the packed audience. The concert presented a mixed programme running from classical to contemporary music with the audience loudly applauding the virtuoso performances to which they were treated. The fabric of St John the Evangelist church is Norman but the circular churchyard hints at it being a pre-Christian worship site. The church at Cilybebyll is situated in a beautiful and tranquil place and it is vital that this landmark building be saved for future generations.
