Down Memory Lane

A long term social history project will be launched at the next Local History Coffee Morning in Neath Library on Saturday October 4th.  Called ‘Our Past: Their History’ the project aims to build on Neath's Library of local history photographs to represent the history of Neath and district throughout the 20th Century from 1900 to 2000. Donations of photographs dated between 1900 to 2000 capturing special occasions, events and the people and places of the area together with a small write up / memory to accompany the photograph are welcomed. Any photograph contributed will be digitally copied and the original returned to its donor. The photographs and memories contributed will be preserved for future generations and used in the library as part of their local history collection, photographic displays and online archives. Come along on Saturday morning 4th October from 10.30 pm to discover how you can contribute to shaping the record of our local history. Anyone unable to come on that occasion can contact Harriet Eaton, the Heritage Education Officer at Neath Library about this ongoing project.

Pictured above is the last of the old style grocery shops in Neath where customers had personal attention at the counter.
