This is a searchable summary of the criminal records of the Welsh Courts of Great Session from 1730 to 1830. Copies of the original records can be ordered from the National Library.
Digital Copies of Newspapers - The Cambrian Newspaper - Index Project
The Cambrian Newspaper is an important source for local history in the 1800s. The National Library did not have copies of the Cambrian from 1847 to 1869 and therefore Welsh Newspapers Online does not include the Cambrian for that period. Microfilmed copies of the Cambrian are available at Neath Reference Library and elsewhere. The Cambrian Index can be used to search for newspaper stories but you will need to look at the microfilmed copies to see the full details.

Ordnance Survey Maps
Whilst the NAS archive has an outstanding collection of maps both Ordnance Survey and others. This link will take you to the National Library of Scotland site which includes maps of Wales.
Shipping - Swansea & Neath Mariners
Here you can search against names of individual mariners etc. You can also search ship names if they were registered in Swansea, access descriptions of them and, if you are lucky, find out about the owners and the voyages which the ships undertook.

This is a link to an astonishing database of Welsh mariners from 1800 onward. It is searchable by name, place of birth etc.
Tithe Maps - Welsh Tithe Maps
These maps show landownership and occupation in the late 1830’s and can be searched by personal name farm name or location. A little tricky to navigate but very useful for local and family historians. Otherwise known as Places of Wales or Cynefin.
The NAS has at the Neath Mechanics Institute a collection of trade directories containing the names of businesses, individual traders and private residents available for you to consult. This link connects to a website that has digitised copies of old trade directories. With some patience, they are searchable.
