I am Aberdonian by birth but have lived and worked in Inverness since the early 1970s. Employed as a local government accountant during most of that period I painted as a hobby, developing my skills through attending evening classes  and courses run by Inverness Art Society and Inverness College.

Most of my early work was in gouache and watercolour with  flowers proving to be a favourite subject , but  I also enjoyed  painting villages and landscapes in watercolour, when on holiday abroad in countries such as Italy and and Spain where I find the brilliant light and colour to be particularly inspirational.

I served as Secretary and President of Inverness Art Society for several years and , in my position as President I also became involved in the setup of the Highland Printmakers Workshop in Inverness in the 1980s.

As well as exhibiting in the Inverness Art Society Annual Exhibition each August, I have also had several solo Exhibitions in  Inverness Floral Hall ,and have participated in joint exhibitions in venues such as  Inverness Public Library, Eden Court Theatre, and  the Printmakers Workshop.

Since taking early retirement in the late 1990s I have been able to spend more time on artistic pursuits and I have tackled a wider range of media, including oil, acrylic, pastels, and monoprinting and collagraph printmaking , - and also a wider range of subject matter.       I would find it very difficult to say what my favourite medium is as I enjoy them all, but my favourite subject matter has to be still-life.

For the past two years I have had studio space at the Blue Door Studio in Nairn which allows me to be  more experimental in what I do and encourages me to be more disciplined in making time to paint.

I have been a member of Highland Open Studios for the last three years , exhibiting in Tore Gallery. This year I plan to hold my Open Studio Week at the Blue Door Studio in Nairn, during the first week in August .
