Restricted Keys - What Are They ?

by Derek Mercer - 02:57 on 16 June 2023

A restricted key is simply a key that can only be duplicated by authorised key centres. The shape of the keyway on the lock itself is normally different than others and the lock manufacturer only supplys its key blanks to authorised key centres thus preventing anyone else from getting the key blanks.

Restricted keyways are ideal in situations where you might want to prevent people from being able to get keys cut without your specific authority such as house cleaners dog sitters or walkers etc.

In order to get a restricted key duplicated a person will normally need a card that comes with the lock (as above) or alternatively with the Apecs lock the customer registers the lock in their name and specifys a password at the time of registration.
