Anti Snap Locks What Are They ?

Anti Snap Locks What Are They ?

At Locksmiths Birchwood we often get asked about antisnap locks and what they are. The story starts in West Yorkshire in approximately 2011 when it was noticed that euro cylinder locks (normally found on upvc doors) were being attacked using a method called lock snapping.

The lock snapping method was quick and easy allowing the thieves quick access into homes and the British Standard euro cylinder locks we had at the time didnt offer any protection against this type of attack.

This ws when lock manufacturers started to make locks offering protection against this type of attack but even though some are still described as anti snap or snap resisitent they might not be up to the job so what are anti snap locks.

When looking for antisnap locks customers need to be aware and look out for a euro cylinder lock that has 3 stars on the face of the lock. Manufacturers test their locks and only 3 star euro cylinders are specifically designed to withstand a snapping attack.

As you can see in the above picture the 3 euro cylinders look alike but only the 3 star cylinder is actually designed as antisnap the other two although might offer some resistence are not.

At Lockkeys Locksmiths Birchwood when asked for antisnap locks we will only supply and fit 3 star diamond grade euro cylinders which are the most secure antisnap locks in the UK at the moment (2023) and will not call any other euro cylinder antisnap becuase it isnt.
