23 February 2012
CPD group meeting 23rd Feb 2012

CPD conversation Thursday 23rd Feb. 5.15-7.00 1WN 3.15.

Here is a quote I think that you will like from Joan Walton's Doctoral Lecture from a week last  Monday:

"The contribution I aspire to make to the science of consciousness is to encourage us all to use this remarkable tool [the brain], which each of us possesses, to investigate the mind from within and to search for the means by which we can create a new order for the whole of humanity, drawing on the love, hope and wisdom that is already within us at the source of our individual and collective beings. "

Joan is hoping to be with us on Thursday the 8th March.

Do login and access our blogging section to see Shelagh's and Tracey's most recent writings together with responses. You could add your response if you haven't already done so.

Marie has added the video-clip from last week where I'm talking about rigour in action research. I'll bring more texts on action research/practitioner tomorrow to see if you'd like to borrow them. I'm not sure who has the Tidwell book on research methods for self-study and it would be good to have it tomorrow just to point out some of the chapters. Sally - if you can make it, do please bring along the book on practitioner-research by the Irish primary teachers.

After our catch up do let's look at any writings, books, papers, ideas you bring along.

I'm hopeful that Maureen will be OK to make the meeting and that we'll have the copies of the Special Issue of the Journal of Co-operative Studies to focus on the values that distinguish co-operative enquiries. Maureen - please don't push yourself too hard to get to the meeting.

Marie's viva has been fixed for the 27th March so we can continue to ask questions such as 'What is your thesis?' 'What are the main original ideas in your thesis?'

I've got to have the following three presentations ready for posting on the web-site of the American Educational Research Association Website by the 15th March and I'll circulate them as soon as they are ready:
