20 November 2011
CPD group meeting Room 1W 3.15 Univ Bath

CPD conversation, 5.15-7.00 Thursday 24th November 1W. 3.15.

Last week we talked about this site and how we might use it more cooperatively. It was agreed that the settings would be changed so those who would like to be able to post directly to the CPD members blog page can do so. People can still send to Marie to post if they would rather.
You can now log in and put things on a number of pages, including new pages for Discussion of Readings and Wanted! Some pages are only visible when logged in others are visible anyway so check.
Do log in and respond even if you don’t want to post much as it helps us to feel connected.

We also talked about Masters modules, enquiries and timelines. Those who were with us said they would like some deadlines to work to, to keep focused on the important amongst the urgent. I am suggesting 1st January 2012 as the deadline for a first draft of the writerly text, the writing where you are clarifying for yourself your enquiry. Any thoughts about this as a suggestion - we hold ourselves accountable to producing our first drafts by then?

We could begin by posting initial drafts of our questions on the blog page and share our writings there as they emerge. Tara is going to post her question in the blog by Wednesday so please do log in and respond – it is very encouraging to know that someone is looking and we can begin to build this more as a virtual cooperative space irrespective of whether we can all meet physically.

Some people have read Shelagh’s writings on her autobiography of conflict on the blog page. It would be another start to build our virtual cooperative community if more people could respond, to see if we can share an understanding of the values that are motivating Shelagh to do what she does.  You can access Shelagh’s writings from the blog page and follow on from Mark’s response. Shelagh cant be with us for the next few weeks so it would be grand if we could see how we can stay connected through the virtual space.

After we have caught up on Thursday Sonia is going to show us a video she has made of a conversation with a carer and then we are going to share our thinking about Crompton, T. (2010) Common Cause: The Case for Working with our Cultural Values. It can be easily downloaded so no problems with accessing the paper. Check the Reading Room for the link.

The keynote presentation Jack gave in Bergen, last Wednesday on Theories produced by practitioner researchers: contribution to improvement both locally and globally to a workshop on Research on Teacher Education to Norwegian researchers is in the What's New section of http://www.actionresearch.net at http://www.actionresearch.net/writings/jack/jw16-11-11bergen2011.pdf .

Looking forward to seeing you soon in the physical and/or virtual space
Jack and Marie
