Launch of the CPD project began with lots of introduction Each person said a few words to introduce themselves and what they are doing. Some, but not all are registered for Masters units. People are from diverse settings and situations. There is a mix of long-time, new and returning members of the group. Some are continuing enquiries, some are starting, and some have yet to start. We are all enthusiastic about developing our enquiries co-operatively to improve our own learning and life, the learning and lives of other people, and the communities we are part of to make this a better world all and especially children and young people.

Jack introduced the CPD living values improving practice co-operatively project and a Living Theory action research approach, details on http://www.actionresearch.net

Quite a few people have already made a start and shared their writing. We talked about how we might each start or continue our enquiries for example:
-       What is energising you at the moment?
o   E.g. Could be something that has been said, an event, an experience, an epiphany, a ‘storm cloud moment’, a concern, a challenge, an interest, something that piques your curiosity, something pressing…
-       Looking back?
o   E.g. How your last enquiry went, what has kept you in the profession or doing what you are doing, times in your life that were important to you, learning that stands out…
-       Looking forward?
o   E.g. What is your concern, why you are concerned, your research question, what you intend to do, data you will be collecting…
A number of people have already looked at Sonia’s biographical writing on her website. Find Sonia’s site from the page ‘Links to CPD project members’ sites’ Send Marie a link to your site to add to the list.

Ros brought cakes and chocs, which were most welcome. Unfortunately you will have to bring your own liquids – there should be takeaway coffee etc available from the cafés, bar and shops on the campus.

Ros also generously started a group book-box with a donation of books she no longer wants. She said she had found it really helpful to start a file for each book or paper she read putting the full reference e.g. author, initials, date, title, place of publication, publisher at the top, typing out quotations with page numbers and reflections and saving the file in a references folder for later use. If anyone would like to share their reference files, article/book reviews etc. as they create them send them to Marie and she will add them to the ‘Reading room’ page.

Each person said they would begin or continue to write something to share and will say what response, if any, they would like. They will send to Marie, and say what they would like to happen e.g. circulate as attachment to the group, post on the ‘CPD project members page’ The page will only be visible to those logged in as CPD group members. It is not completely private as there will be a number of people you don’t know who will be able to log in and see the page but it will not be on general public display.

Each person said they will try to come Thursday even if cant stay for the whole time, especially to begin with so we can get to know each other. Meeting times will be 5.15-7.00 University of Bath – BUT check the room number, as it will change. Next one is 1W 4.40. Will be added to the calendar.
