Mary Tavy Community Garden

We have recently agreed to rent a piece of land, adjacent to a primary school, from Devon County Council for a peppercorn rent. We're aiming to create an ornamental, edible garden in which we will share the work and the produce. We aim to include all age groups, and have contacts with the local primary school who are interested in participating, as well as with a local school for boys with behavioural problems. We will use the knowledge and experience of our elder villagers and pass this on to future generations.

The garden will also function as a social space, and we will undertake craft and arts projects as suggested by the community, such as building an earth oven. From this we would hope to expand the project to small, spare plots of land around the area where we might do some guerilla vegetable gardening!
