Ubuntu Counselling Services

Who we are:

Ubuntu is a not for profit multicultural Counselling Service, based in Exeter, covering the South West of England. Ubuntu is looking to  deliver a horticultural therapy project, to allow clients to participate in therapeutic groups which have a focus and encourage the kind of conditions which might enable members to begin to address some of the difficulties they experience. Some identified areas are anger, stress, isolation, identity and belonging, self esteem and self confidence.

Two seperate horticultural groups will be offered- one for men and one for women, to allow all cultural groups to participate. Exeter Community Agriculture project (another HogCO member group), have agreed to share some of the land they rent (near Shillingford St. George) with Ubuntu. Part of the therapeutic process is to enable the group members to take ownership of the project, by deciding what is done and how, where things go, and how they organise themselves. There will however be a paid lead facilitator and assistant to oversee the project and provide growing advice and guidance to the clients.

HogCO have provided a capital grant to enable Ubuntu to purchase the necessary equipment and materials to enable the project to get started.
