Who we are:

DIGG (Diversity, Integration, Generation, Growth) project was developed to promote participation in gardening and horticulture to people in North Devon, with a focus on social inclusion and cooperation between diverse communities. The main aim of the project is to clear, develop and use a community allotment in Appledore. The project will have a trial period of one year, beginning in March 2012, and involve seven volunteers to begin with, who will be recruited by word of mouth. The project will be open to people of the North Devon area committed to the DIGG projects aims and objectives and who volunteer to become members. The focus of the project will be on disadvantaged groups, however membership will be open to any one in sympathy with and supporting the objectives of the project.

We aim to:

• Enable participation in gardening to people who would normally not have such opportunities.
• Provide access to training opportunities about horticulture and permaculture.
• Capacity-build individuals and communities to be able to use their strengths and be self sufficient.
• Encourage cooperation with other community groups.
• Give opportunities to promote good fellowship among diverse groups, including minority ethnic and local communities with a common aim.
• To promote positive identities, a sense of belonging and mutual support networks.
